French M classification composed of 6 categories which defines the reaction of materials to fire :
M0 – incombustible
M1 – non-flammable
M2 – low flammability
M3 – moderately flammable
M4 – easily flammable
M5 – highly flammable
A material is M0 classified if it meets the following conditions :
- no effective inflammation on the radiant test, or the material meets the M1 classification requirements on the electric burner
- its higher (gross) calorific value (HCV) is lower or equal to 2,5 MJ/kg (600Kcal/kg)
This system will disappear because of the implementation of the construction product directive, which imposes the CE marking on these products. The European classification system called Euroclass will replace it.
